One of the things we think about often at HÄDDEN is what happens after a product arrives.
Not the campaign. Not the product page. Not the first week.
We think about how something actually lives in a home over time. How it wears in. How it gets used. How easy it is to keep around, clean, and worth keeping in sight.
That is a big part of why washability matters to us.
Life with cats is never completely neat. There is fur, dust, daily wear, and the kind of mess that comes naturally with something being truly used. We do not see that as a flaw. It is part of living with animals. But we do think pet products should be designed with real life in mind.
For us, that means they should not only look good on day one. They should be easy to maintain on day one hundred, too.
Washable surfaces help extend the life of a product in a simple but important way. They make it easier to care for, easier to refresh, and easier to continue living with comfortably. A scratcher that cannot be maintained often becomes something people want to replace, hide, or tolerate. We wanted the opposite.
We wanted to design pieces that could stay in the home longer and age more gracefully.
That practical side is important, but it is also connected to something bigger. When an object is easier to care for, it becomes easier to integrate into everyday life. It feels less disposable. Less frustrating. More like a lasting part of the home.
That is the standard we are interested in.
We do not believe pet essentials should sit outside the language of design. They should function well, of course, but they should also respect the environment they live in. They should feel intentional in both form and upkeep.
Washability may sound like a small detail, but in practice it changes a lot. It means less stress, less visible wear, and a better chance that a product continues to feel good in your space over time.
For a brand like HÄDDEN, those details matter.
We are not only designing for a cat’s instinct to scratch. We are also designing for the shared life around it — the room, the routine, the visual calm of a space, and the reality that the best objects are the ones people can actually live with.
That is why washability is not an extra feature to us. It is part of good design.
