HÄDDEN NYC is a New York design studio making modern pet furniture and
home accessories — sisal cat scratchers, scratching boards, pet beds, and small
objects for the home. We design for people who care how a room looks, and for
animals who have never once cared. The work is to make both of those things
true at the same time.
Most pet products are designed as if the animal lives somewhere else. Bright plastic, molded logos, a shape that only makes sense in a pet store aisle. They arrive, they work, and then they sit in the corner of a room you spent years getting right — the one object you move before guests arrive.
We started HÄDDEN because that trade-off is unnecessary. A scratcher is a piece of furniture. It has a footprint, a texture, a proportion, a relationship to the sofa beside it. Treat it like one and the problem disappears.
Sisal scratchers that mount on a wall or lie flat on the floor. A scratching board substantial enough to hold its own next to real furniture. Pet beds with structure, in colors that were chosen rather than defaulted to. Replacement surfaces, so a good object outlives its wear.
Everything is designed to be left out. That is the whole specification.
We work in natural sisal, wool, and dense foam, and we specify them the way a furniture brand would: by density, weave, and how they age under a cat that means it. Sisal because cats read it correctly and it wears honestly. Replaceable rugs because the alternative is throwing away a good frame over a worn surface.
Nothing here is decorative-only. If a cat won't use it, it doesn't ship.
HÄDDEN began as a Kickstarter campaign that closed at 313% of its goal — enough of a signal that we were not the only people tired of hiding the cat furniture. Since then the work has been quieter and more useful: better tolerances, better packaging, a supply chain we actually control, and products refined against what customers wear out first.
The brand has since been featured in New York Magazine's The Strategist and is now carried in 130+ independent retail stores across the US, alongside direct shipping worldwide.
More rooms, more species. We are extending the same design logic to dog furniture and to home objects that happen to be for pets rather than pet products that happen to be in a home. Same rule as always.
